Wire Numbering

Wire numbering is the most comprehensive part of the Numbering module. All drawing pages are scanned from the top left corner downward, then the system continues scanning to the right. Wires found during this process are numbered sequentially.

Numbering Mode

ModeDescription
Plotframe basedConventional sequential numbering. All connections except those extending to the field are considered a wire. New wire = previous value + 1. Caution: potential bus bars do not share the same number.
Potential orientedDefault. Numbers on bus bars or potential power connections always stay the same — most commonly used mode.
Potential oriented with supplementary numbersSame as Potential oriented but assigns supplementary numbers to potential power connections based on their rank.

Counting Mode

ModeDescription
SequentialDirect sequential numbering: 1, 2, 3, ...
Page specificNumbering restarts from the beginning on every page
Path-by-pathNumbering restarts from the beginning for each path
Target-specificWire name based on the two ends it connects to and their connection numbers (e.g. X1:1/Q1:2)

Reserve Line

When enabled, numbering on each page is based on multiples of the value entered. For example, if the value is 5, the first page starts at 5, and each new page starts at the next multiple.

Numbering Method

MethodDescription
New numberingRe-generates all numbers, including fixed wires
AppendContinues numbering from the last existing wire number
Close upFills in deleted wire numbers, then continues from the last number

Starting Value

The first value used in wire numbering, or the first wire number on each new page if Page specific counting mode is selected.

Scope

OptionDescription
All wiresNumbers all wires in the project without exception
Selected pagesNumbers only the selected pages
Number unfixed wiresNumbers only wires that are not fixed. Fixed wires retain their assigned numbers even during renumbering.
Number only wires between HLAs or LODsNumbers only wires connecting HLAs and LODs (for DIN norm projects)

Numbering Format

The format specifies the number of digits and the factors to include. Letters in the format string represent digits:

  • AAA → 3-digit counter only → wire 1 displays as 001
  • BBAAA → page (2 digits) + counter (3 digits) → page 5, wire 1 = 05001

The Separator field adds a character between different factors in the format.

Other Designation Options

Specifies how the following special elements are handled during numbering:

  • Terminals
  • Potential arrows
  • Device-end terminals
  • Potential-end terminals
  • PLC terminals

Values for each:

ValueDescription
No actionDefault — element not affected by numbering
Set symbol number to connected wireAssigns the symbol's number/name to the wire
Set wire number to connected symbolAssigns the wire number to the symbol
